GARMISCH - PARTENKIRCHEN
St.-Irmengard-Gymnasium is a secondary Catholic school for girls in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the very South of Germany. It was founded in 1930 in order to give girls the opportunity to get further education after primary school, which was quite normal in cities at that time, but not in the countryside.
Our school has got three school programmes, one is based on music and art, one is based on social science and one on languages. All students start in year 5 with English as first foreign language. In year 6, the programmes split up into the music and art one with compulsory Latin language learning, the language programme with compulsory Latin as second and French as third foreign language and the social science programme where the students can choose between Latin and French as second foreign language. Additionally, the students can drop the second foreign language after year 9 and take Spanish.
At St.-Irmengard-Gymnasium, the students have got the opportunity to stay at school in the afternoon and do their homework in groups with the help of teachers and other school staff. They also have the opportunity to get involved in activity planning and in doing projects.
